A "must see" when visiting Columbus, Nebraska
is the Andrew Jackson Higgins
National Memorial. Higgins, who
was a native of Columbus, was the inventor
of the LCVP: Landing Craft, Vehicle,
Personnel, a.k.a. the "Higgins Boat"
which was used extensively to put military
personnel onto beaches all over
the world. The Memorial is right across
the street from the conference hotel.
